On Diameters of Orbits of Compact Groups in Unitary Representations

Abstract

For a compact group G, we compute the Kazhdan constants k(G,G) obtained by taking G iteslf as a generating subset. We get k(G,G) = Ö{2n/(n - 1)} if G is finite of order n, and k(G,G) = Ö2 if G is infinite.
